Onboarding Bootcamp: How to Streamline Your Onboarding Process From Day 1

Employee onboarding may be the most critical step to ensure the success of new team members. Research suggests that nearly one in three new hires will leave the job before working three months. With retention a key focus, what can you do to make your new employees more engaged? Here are some tips to streamline your onboarding process from day one to make things easier for your new team members.

How Can You Streamline the Onboarding Process from Day 1?

Use Automation

Wherever you can, use automation to streamline your process. When you automate the daily operations involved in onboarding, including the administrative work involved, you can make this better for you and incoming employees. AI-Assisted technology, such as your ATS, can give you more options to automate the process.

Create Templates and Processes

You also don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you onboard a new employee. Take the time upfront to create templates and systems to help you and your team onboard new employees quickly but ensure that you cover everything necessary.

Provide Information Ahead of Start Date

Provide whatever information you can ahead of the start date. This can include access to the employee handbook and portal. You can also use e-signature software to streamline the paperwork necessary to start including the W4 and I9. This means your employee won’t have to spend valuable time in their first days filling out paperwork.

Be Prepared for Day One

There have been countless examples of employees starting on their first day only to be uncertain about where they will sit and how long it will take to get them set up with a computer. Before their start day, prepare to ensure they have everything they need to get started.

Focus on Culture and Training

While learning to do the job will be a critical part of onboarding, you also want to ensure they get a feel for the company culture. Take them on a tour. Introduce them to other departments. Showcase what makes your business different and unique. Give them a chance to ask questions.
